History

Building a new school for Deptford Green goes back a long way.

The first Deptford Green “vision” document on building a new school was prepared under the guidance of then head teacher Keith Ajegbo in December 2005. This document – scanned in – is attached as a pdf (link opens new window).

The more recent, updated “vision” document, prepared under the guidance of head teacher Peter Campling lays out a slightly different vision. A scanned in version of this is also attached as a pdf (link opens new window).

In July 2008, Lewisham council commissioned a report to examine ideas. This included some rough ideas of how land might be used and how the new school could be built on the current lower school site. These were never meant to be plans as such, just ideas for discussion. We have this Strategic Framework (pdf opens in new window), although costings at the back have been removed as they remain commercially sensitive.

The parents forum first got involved in late 2008 and our reports of developments are included here.

Information about the design of schools  is included in a book called Picturing School Design (pdf opens in new window)

Basically, there will be a new school on a single site (not negotiable) for 1300 pupils (not negotiable) and a new sports facility on a part of Fordham Park.

The exact shape and design of the school are all up for discussion and a lot will depend on whether or not the chosen site (the lower school on Edward Street) is cleared before building (with pupils housed in temporary buildinsg onteh uper school car park) or the building work carries on while lower school pupils remain on site.
